The Leopard-Vista Wars - How they dugg me down
October 28th, 2007 by Marc UhligYesterday I found a post about Engadget comparing Vista with Leopard on digg, of course I had to write a comment…
The operating system war - what is wrong with these people? Why does the same old story get so many diggs over and over again? So in my comment I dared to express my astonishment about this, of course I got dugg down…
One guy actually got it right though, sites like Engadget post such stupid things for the sole reason of getting more traffic from digg, they have figured it out I guess, one response to my comment was like “You are right, but if you don’t want to read this, don’t read it” - yeah, I got it, next time I will try to keep my mouth shut, it doesn’t make sense anyways… Go on and fight over your operating systems you fanboys…

Hey, we actually don’t post stories like that to get traffic on Digg — though of course we don’t mind it — we post stories like that because we think people will find it useful to see the feature sets for each OS compared side-by-side. Not everyone is an entrenched devotee of one OS over another, there are a lot of people out there who like to make an informed decision about what OS to install and appreciate us compiling the information.
The partisan comments are frustrating because they crowd out any reasonable discussion of each systems’ pluses and minuses, but I don’t think the fanboyish reactions of a small minority of readers should stop us from doing what I hope are useful comparison pieces.

Ok, got your point, you are not doing this for for digg traffic, and you are probably right, there are some readers who might actually benefit from such a comparison, I guess my problem is that a new windows-mac comparison is posted in digg every other week, with the same fanboyish reactions, but as I said, I won’t read these digg stories anymore in the future, problem solved…
